Despite my best intentions to write regularly, I’ve decided it’s okay to accept the last-minute invitation for a drink and a good conversation with a friend. Without living a life with people who mean the world to us, what good is any of it anyway?
So tonight, I neglected any responsibility I thought I had to have a beer with a favorite. And it wound up being an evening with a whole host of favorites, and many memories. Sure, goals are great, accomplishments are sweet, and commitments are honorable.
But tonight, for me, nothing compares to saying yes to tossing all of that up in the air in favor of something more meaningful, more memorable – time with friends.
Sometimes we don’t realize it, but what we crave is to feel understood. Even if it doesn’t feel like anything is missing in the moment. Once that hole is filled, though, it becomes clear. Being a part of a friendship, a relationship… it’s everything.
